I have a confession to make.

Cora and I were driving and I saw a sign in front of a church.  It said, "Confessions: 3:30 - 4:00".  It made me wonder if I had anything to confess and if I could wait until 3:30?  I don't do the priest confession type thing.  I always figured it would be my luck that the janitor would be filling in.  Kinda like the time I got a motorcycle ticket in Kerrville and the judge's brother filled in.  He threatened to throw me in jail and assessed the maximum fine possible by law.  Just because I said I wasn't going to pay.  Go figure.

Anyway, someone needs to explain to me.  How is it that confession is required to go to heaven, but the guy will only listen between the hours of 3:30 and 4:00?  I suppose it means everyone is pretty good with nothing to say or heaven is going to be pretty empty.  Or, could it be there is another answer?

Just thinking...

Does Jesus Twitter? Interesting Technology and Faith article.

The Gospel according to Twitter

Amy Green

Religion News Service

May 26, 2009

ORLANDO, Fla. (RNS) -- Do you tweet during church? Isn't it rude?

David Loveless doesn't think so. Loveless is lead pastor of Discovery Church, a nondenominational congregation that draws some 4,000 on Sundays to three locations in Orlando. The congregation has always thrived on the cutting edge, becoming among the first to embrace contemporary music and remove its steeple from its building.

Now the congregation is tweeting -- using 21st-century technology to discuss the gospel in 140-character cell-phone text updates sent via Twitter.

The technology emerged naturally here, as something parishioners brought with them to Sundays from the rest of their week. Loveless recognized it as a new way to communicate, and he began posing questions during his sermons and asking parishioners to "tweet" back by texting their responses. Those responses were then woven into his sermons, creating an instantaneous dialogue between pulpit and pew.

"In John 1, when Jesus was referred to as `the Word that became flesh,' God knew exactly what was the most relevant form of communication for the first century," Loveless said. "It made people feel like, `My gosh, he talks my language.' That would be people's responses these days, in going, `My gosh, my pastor tweets.'"

It is the newest technology arriving in contemporary church services. In fact, it's so new, and growing so fast, that there's no data to say just how many churches have embraced it.

No longer is the cell phone such a pariah -- only ringing cell phones are. Instead, church leaders are inviting worshippers to tweet and text their way through services as a way to share their prayers and reflections with neighbors in the pews, or their family, friends and "followers" on Twitter.

"It's a hot-bed issue right now, and people are on two sides of the fence about it," said Matt Carlisle, a Nashville, Tenn.-based technology and new media consultant for faith-based groups and nonprofits.

"As Christians, we are to witness, we are to make disciples for Jesus Christ. And if we can embrace new technology to do that, I don't see any reason why we shouldn't embrace Twitter, why we shouldn't embrace Facebook."

Many church leaders embraced new media such as Twitter and Facebook long ago as a way to create an online gathering place and promote upcoming events. Now some are taking it further, encouraging tweeting and texting during services as a way to create dialogue and strengthen a sense of community.

Michael Campbell, the 30-year-old pastor of the 230-member Montrose Seventh-day Adventist Church in Montrose, Colo., poses questions during his sermons and asks worshippers to text their responses, which are displayed on a screen. Like Loveless, Campbell then discusses the responses.

In other congregations, Twitter has emerged quietly and organically, with parishioners tweeting their reflections during services in the same way they tweet their thoughts or activities throughout the week. The dialogue also allows real-time discussion and gives those who couldn't make it a chance to monitor services from afar.

"I'm a younger pastor," Campbell said. "You're just building that sense of community, and people are interested in that because now they are part of the sermon."

But isn't it distracting? Doesn't it detract from the contemplative and meditative nature of spirituality? Carlisle points out that parishioners long have been taking notes during services, and that never has been distracting to others.

"I don't think the etiquette has been established yet," he said.

"Literally, within a year's time, this thing has been happening at a handful of congregations."

At Mars Hill Church in Seattle, leaders never decided to add Twitter to services. It just happened, said Ian Sanderson, a church spokesman.

The nondenominational congregation draws some 8,000 worshippers at nine locations, including a new one in Albuquerque, N.M. Seattle is a tech-savvy place, and the average member at Mars Hill is in his or her 20s. Tweeting and texting encourages dialogue across the congregation's multiple locations, and it helps church staff keep up with what parishioners are thinking and feeling, Sanderson said.

"I would say probably 80 or 90 percent of the church staff is on Twitter," he said. "If the old rules aren't helping anyone in their walk and their relationship with Jesus, if you can pull out your iPhone and Twitter something about the sermon and that helps your whole group of friends, we're not going to frown on that at all."

The reality of dreams and do they mean anything...

So I heard this dream and it went something like this...

"I woke up in a cabin with multiple bunks and had to pack up my stuff.   I was suppose to get on a bus but there was no room.  I went to go back in the cabin to get my bags.  Someone had beat me there and locked the door.  The person wouldn't let me in.  There was tar paper on walls in the cabin.  Not pretty painted walls.  Most likely a rehab. project.  I got back on the van and drove to an open field.  I walked across the field with lots of people.

We were looking up at a ridge where there was a road.  On the road was bumper to bumper traffic.  A bunch of lower rider cars were bouncing up and down.  One of the cars was out of control.  An suv began flipping end over end on top of other cars.   I cringed because I thought the  cars were going to fall on us at a church event.

Finally, the suv domino'd a bunch of crashing cars and came to rest.  At the end, the church crowd applauded, said, "yea" and went home.

I kept thinking and feeling for all the hurt people. A helicopter kept circling. We walked away but kept feeling for all the hurt people..."

The dreamer wonders aloud, "How can the dream be so real?"  What do you think?  Is there any significance in dreams?

Is an angel that turns bad still an angel?

I'm told angels alive and well. Maybe millions... Some are good. Some
are bad. Is a bad angel still an angel? Can you have a bad guardian
angel?

Angels: God or Bad? Physical or Spiritual?

I have been following a friend's blog, "Truth from the Hip".  Richard Glenn is writing a great series on Angels.  It is informative.  Seems scriptually sound and insightful.  You will miss a great opportunity to stretch your mind, if you don't follow His blog series.  I'm sure the process of following will spur new thoughts for me and you will find they make their way to 37stories.  God bless!

Thank you Richard!

God. The Great Communicator. Speaks.

Has God ever communicated anything to you?  If so, how did you get the message?  Possibilities might be...
  • a thought that doesn't feel like your own
  • a word from the Bible that leaped out
  • circumstance beyond your control
  • a vision
  • a dream
  • an impression or feeling
  • from a person
  • from an animal
  • from a sight
  • from a touch
  • from a smell
  • from a sound
  • from an angel
  • an unknown tongue
Did I miss anything?  Has God ever communicated with you directly?  I'd really like to know.  Some would say, "oh. that is too personal.  i can't tell you."  Ever thought maybe it is not about you?  Maybe it is about encouraging someone else's faith with your experience.
OK.  I'll start.  The other day, I believe God let me experience a very small part of what it feels like to fear Him.  Nothing I can do to prove it to you.  Just an experience that I had, that I believe was from God.  Now it is your turn....

If you have not ever had a direct communication with God, start with step one.  Confess aloud that you believe God is Lord and believe with your heart that Jesus rose from the dead and thank Him for moving into the very essence of your being.  You are now a cohabitation...  God bless.

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.

Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good.  Be devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above yourselves.  Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.  Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.  Share with God's people who are in need. Practice hospitality.

Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse.  Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.  Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position.  Do not be conceited.

Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everybody.  If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone.  Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God's wrath, for it is written: “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”[4] says the Lord.  On the contrary:
“If your enemy is hungry, feed him;
if he is thirsty, give him something to drink.
In doing this, you will heap burning coals on his head.

Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

I still have nothing to say...

With that, I say, "Good night."

Posted via email from Archie's Life Stream

I've got nothing to say...

That being said, "I've got something to say."

When is the last time you laughed?  I work at a place that laughter comes natural.  Someone is always letting loose with laughter.  Today, I was in a funk.  I think I squashed a laugh or two.  I wish I had been more appreciative of laughter.  I apologized.  I was wrong.  The day turned out ok with jalepeno pizza and my bride.  She spotted a ribbon on the rug and thought it was a snake as we got home.  I laughed.  The day turned out ok.

Did you provoke a laugh today?

Esther 8:16 And then there was laughter, gladness and joy...  Ha! says, Cora!

The Power of God's Word. In response to an email...

I Facebook.  The other day, a friend asked me what I thought about a circumstance in her life.  I said, "I would ponder it".  My thoughts were as follows...

I shared the thoughts in this email with Cora and have been pondering.  God bless you for your faithfulness to your children and God.

The answer is really quite simple and might be judged "overworked" because one hears it all the time in Christian circles.  I heard it for many years before it made it from my head to my heart.  So pause a moment, and consider what you already know.

"Keep your eyes on the creator not on your circumstance."

A tool to accomplish this which Cora helped me discover in circumstances that were incredibly difficult and life changing for us was simple.  Cora opened her heart to what God would say.  She wrote specific verses from God's Word on index cards that I put in a notebook I carried with me everyday.  Frequently, I would take the notecards out, read, ponder and claim the power of God's written Word.

"The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word." Hebrews

Possibly, this verse might be one to incorporate in your list.  David had 5 stones to slay Goliath and his brothers.  Pick your five stones and load your sling!

God bless and use this time in your and your family's life to grow closer to Him.  I know you might have preferred I say, "Go to the river and wash 7 times and you will get what you want."  But in God's reality, I believe He might reveal to you what it is you really need to experience His abundance in your life.  That is between you and Him.

Enjoy the experience knowing that God cares.

"anonymous" suggests I stop writing and spend more time in Starbucks and less with the homeless...

Starbucks and Homeless:  "Please stop writing stories such as this one. It is insulting to both the subject of the work and the reader because the primary concern is furthering your own narrow world view at the expense of a person who is not need of any further exploitation. Spend a bit more time in Starbucks next time before you wander into the world to deliver such rubbish." anonymous

It seems the person stumbled across a "God Spot" I encountered at Starbucks during my bus trip to California.    This seems to confirm my previous post of the power of God's Word.  At least half the advice is good.  I could probaby spend more time in Starbucks, but then I'd be missed at work so I guess not...

Ever wondered what the most powerful Word of all time might be? I'm inclined to think it, "Jesus".

This Son perfectly mirrors God, and is stamped with God's nature. He holds everything together by what he says-powerful words!

Ever Been Krumping? I don't know about this...

Krumping gives movement to the spirit's call
By Steven G. Vegh

CHESAPEAKE, Va.—On a peaceful afternoon in a suburban home garage, Demetrus Leslie, 17, jerked like he was dosed with strychnine. His arms lashed menacingly, then he dropped to the floor, only to rear up smoothly.

His chest popped in and out, convulsing as if an alien larva heaved within. He ranged around the garage, “traveling,” or following the direction of his foot stomps and arm swings.

“Go, go!” admiring friends yelled over the pounding music. In his spontaneity, speed and mesmerized concentration, they could see the tell-tale symptoms.

Demetrus had got krump. Praise the Lord!

Krump is a frenetic dance born on the West Coast, combining flashes of modern dance, break-dancing, tribal-like dance, hip hop, “pop lock” steps and free-form motion, often at blurring speed.

But while some krumpers elsewhere - have a nearly religious devotion for the dance, Leslie and his friends say Krump truly is all about God.

“When you going the fastest, that’s when you unleash, that’s when God takes over,” said Demetrus, who belongs to a local krump group, Kreative Mindz Crew: The Syfer Family, that aims to keep kids off the street and in the church.

The origins of the name Krump are obscure, but fans including Demetrus’ older brother, Kreative Mindz manager Danyasius Leslie, give it this definition: Kingdom Radicals Uplifting Mighty Praise.

“How would I describe krump?” said Danaysius, 29. “I would say, because I have a Christian background, that it’s the power of God that moves.”

For Kreative Mindz dancers, to krump is to praise God through movements inspired by the Holy Spirit. “It’s God, man, all we do is give the glory to God,” said Jaren Goodridge, 15.

Krump’s spiritual dimension may not be immediately apparent to the uninitiated spectator, and Leslie conceded it can be hard for outsiders to see the thrashing and jumping as divinely inspired.

In the Leslies’ garage, lithe Goodridge danced like a caffeine fiend, slender arms swinging, bending and jabbing triple-time, one motion flowing into the next, his gaze fixed on the floor.

Alexis Hinton, in contrast, shot wolfish looks, baring her teeth while stamping and clawing the air with outstretching arms. Despite the feminine bows on her red flats, she radiated anger. Krumping, she said, is a powerful emotional release.

Nohnee Purvis, a high school sophomore, said he first krumped for fun but soon, “the whole spiritual thing of it just hit me in the chest,” he said. Now, he even acts differently.

“Sundays, I’d just sit in the house, sleep, talk on the phone,” Purvis said. “Now I get up and go to church. My whole mind has changed. We got Christ up.”

Leslie started the group two years ago with his brother and some friends, inspired by “Rize,” a lauded 2005 documentary on krump by renowned photographer David LaChapelle.

According to Leslie, a hip-hop dancer named Tommy the Clown started krump in California in the 1990s. The expressive, freestyle dance caught on as an alternative to street violence, with dancers competing, or “battling,” one another to display their moves and krumping prowess.

Leslie’s dance practices in his garage fascinated neighborhood kids and he began recruiting, setting conditions for membership.

One rule is to keep up with school work. “I don’t look for C’s and D’s; I look for A’s and B’s,” said Leslie, who often checks in with parents about teens’ grades.

Leslie also feeds dancers a steady diet of Bible verses and expects them to make Jesus Christ their model. The twice-weekly dance practices start with prayer. Dancers are expected to go to church.

The group has performed about 25 times during Sunday worship at New Light Full Gospel Baptist Church in Virginia Beach, which Leslie attends. Bishop Rudolph B. Lewis said some older congregants initially recoiled when he allowed krumping at services.

Lewis himself said he understands krump dancing no better than his parents’ generation understood Elvis Presley’s risque swivel-hips in the `50s. But he’s told parishioners that teens are more likely to attend church—and to say no to gang-banging—if they know their unorthodox worship styles are welcomed.

“God wants to hear what you want to say, and he don’t care how you say it, and if you say it like this”—Lewis contorted himself, krump-like—“he hears you.”

Sleep with her and you die...

So there was this king who took a georgeous lady to be his wife only to find out she was married to a prophet.  God came to the king and said to give her back or he and his family would die.  The ladies of his family were already made childless as punishment for the king taking this lady as his wife even though the marriage was not consumated.

It seems "Ignorance is no excuse in the eyes of the law" is a Biblical principle.  You do bad.  You are punished.  The interesting part is God says He kept the king from going to bed with the lady and thus kept him from sinning, yet he is still punished.  I find that odd.  Now for the rest of the story...

Then Abimelech gave Sarah back to Abraham, and along with her sent sheep and cattle and servants, both male and female. He said, "My land is open to you; live wherever you wish."

Then Abraham prayed to God and God healed Abimelech, his wife and his maidservants, and they started having babies again.
God revealed to the king the error of his ways.  Revelation demands action.  The king obediently gave the lady back and blessed her family.  God blessed the king and his family.  It is all about knowing right from wrong, being obedient even when you ignorantly do wrong and then obediently following God's direction in fixing the bad you did.  God blesses OBEDIENCE!

Ignorance is no excuse!

This truth principle jerks the rag off the bush!  I don't like it.  If I do something and it is wrong, but I had no idea it was wrong and did it with a pure heart, then why the heck would God punish me for it.  I don't get it!  Does your and my not getting it, change the facts?  Here is the truth principle:

So Abimelech, sent for Sarah and took her. But God came to Abimelech in a dream that night and told him, "You're as good as dead—that woman you took, she's a married woman."

Now Abimelech had not yet slept with her, hadn't so much as touched her. He said, "Master, would you kill an innocent man? Didn't he tell me, 'She's my sister'? And didn't she herself say, 'He's my brother'? I had no idea I was doing anything wrong when I did this."

God said to him in the dream, "Yes, I know your intentions were pure, that's why I kept you from sinning against me; I was the one who kept you from going to bed with her. So now give the man's wife back to him. He's a prophet and will pray for you—pray for your life. If you don't give her back, know that it's certain death both for you and everyone in your family."

Then Abraham prayed to God and God healed Abimelech, his wife and his maidservants, and they started having babies again. For God had shut down every womb in Abimelech's household on account of Sarah, Abraham's wife.

There you have it.  This king innocently takes a wife not knowing she is married already.  In his ignorance, he did wrong and God punished him and his entire household.  But interestingly God says He was prevented from sinning because of his ignorance, but He punished him for his ignorance anyway.

Did I get this right?  Tell me if I'm wrong.  I do something wrong in God's eyes out of ignorance.  God keeps me from sinning, but punishes me for my ignorance.  I'm waiting on you.  Tell me I am wrong.

Bring out those two men (angels) that we might have sport with them...

Yesterday, some were shocked that I would dare consider the possibility of punching an angel in the face.  Must have forgot there are good angels and bad angels.  How would you react when you encountered an angel? I write what God gives me.  I try not to be influenced by what others might thing about what I write.  I just try to be obedient.  This brings me to the next Word from God.  The selection was not planned.  Amazing how it relates to the thoughts from yesterday.
The two angels arrived at Sodom in the evening. Lot was sitting at the city gate. He saw them and got up to welcome them, bowing before them and said, "Please, my friends, come to my house and stay the night. Wash up. You can rise early and be on your way refreshed."

They said, "No, we'll sleep in the street."

But he insisted, wouldn't take no for an answer; and they relented and went home with him. Lot fixed a hot meal for them and they ate.

Before they went to bed men from all over the city of Sodom, young and old, descended on the house from all sides and boxed them in. They yelled to Lot, "Where are the men who are staying with you for the night? Bring them out so we can have our sport with them!"

Lot went out, barring the door behind him, and said, "Brothers, please, don't be vile! Look, I have two daughters, virgins; let me bring them out; you can take your pleasure with them, but don't touch these men—they're my guests."

They said, "Get lost! You drop in from nowhere and now you're going to tell us how to run our lives. We'll treat you worse than them!" And they charged past Lot to break down the door.

But the two men reached out and pulled Lot inside the house, locking the door. Then they struck blind the men who were trying to break down the door, both leaders and followers, leaving them groping in the dark.

The two men said to Lot, "Do you have any other family here? Sons, daughters—anybody in the city? Get them out of here, and now! We're going to destroy this place. The outcries of victims here to God are deafening; we've been sent to blast this place into oblivion."

This passage gives us alot of information about angels.  They would prefer sleeping on the sleep.  Interesting?  Does that bring homeless to mind?  They are protective of God's children.  They have the power to intervene in a physical way.  They blinded the men who were up to no good.  They eventually destroyed the entire town!  These were just two of the likely millions of angels.  WOW!

But remember.  For every two good angels, there is one bad angel.  The bad ones likely have similar powers.  Consider the possibilities, then remember but for the GRACE OF GOD...

Ever wondered what would happen if you sucker punched an angel in the face?

At this point, I am hoping God has a sense of humor. :]

But I was wondering about marianne's encounter with an angel

Keep in mind most encounters with angels in the Bible are frightening.  What if the guy asking you for a handout was seemingly a threat and you sucker punched him in face only to discover he was an angel?  I'm guessing the outcome might not be good.

There have been times when I wondered if I entertained an angel.  Possibly, if I had punched him in the face I would have known for sure.  Kinda like you hold a Puritan's head underwater.  If he drowns, he's innocent.  If he survives, he's evil.

Now what is the point of this post, you say?  It is an opportunity for you to enlighten me as I don't have the foggiest notion. Happy Friday!  Oh wait.  It's Thursday.  Oh well...

When God or one of His angels appears, are you humbled or are your frightened?

"God appeared to Abraham at the Oaks of Mamre while he was sitting at the entrance of his tent. It was the hottest part of the day. He looked up and saw three men standing. He ran from his tent to greet them and bowed before them." I wonder who God's traveling companions were? Possibly, the Trinity?

One of them said, "I'm coming back about this time next year. When I arrive, your wife Sarah will have a son." Sarah was listening at the tent opening, just behind the man. God said to Abraham, "Why did Sarah laugh saying, 'Me? Have a baby? An old woman like me?' Is anything too hard for God?"

Sarah lied. She said, "I didn't laugh," because she was afraid.

Acknowledgement of God's presence demands a response.  Likely, the condition of one's heart is an indicator of what your response will be.  Will you fall humbly on your face before God, knowing you have been as faithful as you knew how?  Yet also aware of how painfully inadequate you have been to fulfill God's will and purpose?  Or will you hide your face and tremble knowing it is time for judgement and only by God's grace will you survive the experience?

Abraham prospered from the experience with a birth lineage still in existance today.  Sodom and Gomorah were visited and now are just a scorched spot in history.

So what about it?  Will you prosper or will you be burnt toast?

President Obama shakes the hand of a friend. Incredible God Spot!

I have a friend who saw God show up in their lives in a big way.  Thought you might enjoy a piece of the dialog...

"Bob just called me for the 5th time today as he and I celebrated a wonderful day ..long distance.  We would have loved to be together today...but it was a wonderful day and one I am so proud of for him and for such a great team of collegues at Suretec.

Today, my husband stood in Washington, DC and on behalf of his friends and partners at Suretec, he received on the team's behalf the great honor of Suretec being chosen the Small Business of the year in the Surety Industry for 2009.  He was honored at a luncheon at the State Department.  Then... to our great suprise,.. though he knew he was going to the White House this afternoon by special invitation... he had a press briefing in the East Wing with the President of the United States of America.

Wow!  Bobby sat on the second row and the camera's were right on him.  Somebody has that film!  I hope we can get a copy.  When the briefing was completed, the President shook hands with Bobby before he left the room. (okay...I have to say it...he does have the good sense to know a good man when he sees him!)  What a day.

Some might not think much of a day like this.  This was a privilege.  We know that God did this for Bobby.  For us, this is just like what God does in our lives.  He sends us to do things we never thought would happen in a million years."

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Mercedes Benz. I wait each day until 3:00... Janis Joplin

Ever pray for something, believing God is with you in the prayer and it seems He delivers "just enough"?  I've often thought I served the God of just enough.  Not the God of abundance.  I've wondered if my God doesn't own all the cattle on a thousand hills.  Maybe He only rents them or is in partnership with a miserly old fellow.

God had promised Abram more children then there were stars in the sky.  Abram believed, but time passed and there were no children.  Sarai got impatient.  Her eyes were on "the now" and not on what the future could be.  The story goes like this...

"Sarai, Abram's wife, hadn't yet produced a child. She had an Egyptian maid named Hagar. Sarai said to Abram, "God has not seen fit to let me have a child. Sleep with my maid. Maybe I can get a family from her." Abram agreed to do what Sarai said. So Sarai, Abram's wife, took her Egyptian maid Hagar and gave her to her husband Abram as a wife. Abram had been living ten years in Canaan when this took place. He slept with Hagar and she got pregnant. When Hagar learned she was pregnant, she looked down on her mistress.

It seems life demands that I fix things.  There is no wait.  I must fix things now.  So after a quick prayer, I wait a bit.  Not long.  Just long enough for the god of just enough to show up and I sieze whatever he will throws my way.  Then, I am off to fix something else.  Sound familiar?

But you know, I am beginning to discover something in my life.  The god of just enough is not the true God.  The true God does own all the cattle on a thousand hills.  The god of just enough steps up and delivers a bogus provision that cuts off the true intended gifts of the one true God.  If you want God's best, you have to prepare a place for Him and wait on Him for delivery of His good and perfect pleasure in your life.

It is tough to wait when the world is crashing down on you.  But, wait you must if you want to walk in God's quiet favor.

Woken by a dream. Even been woken by a dream? What did you do?

I was sleeping just fine the other night.  I was woken by a dream.  The thought left behind was very clear.  The thought was to register a specific website address.  The address was likely impossible to get.  If you have ever wanted to register a new website, you will discover the good names are pretty much taken.

The next morning, I got up and "googled" the address.  Nothing popped up.  So I surfed to Godaddy (not because I like them), but because it is easy to see if a site is registered.  It wasn't.  I surfed to the web service I use at Bravehost and registered the name.  Follow the sequence...

God speaks.  You identify His voice because you have heard it before.  You are obedient not because it makes sense, but because it was God's voice.  God acknowleges your obedience by a sense that "you did good".  Then, you wonder what you just did.  :)

Now what?  Your choices 1) Go forward and develop the site or 2) Wait and see if God has new thoughts.  What would you do?

God does it His way. Why do we always try to make Him do it our way?

As the story goes, four allied kings with their men lined up against 5 allied kings and their men.  The battle is fought and Abram's nephew Lot is captured and all his possessions.  Abram is torqued and rallies his family and goes after the kings.  In God's humor, a family of fighters take on allied kingdoms and kick their butt.  Lot and family is saved and Abram takes none of his plunder.  He only wants his rewards to come from God!  This is a sign of faith.  Set aside what is tangible and wait on God for His blessings.

Then the Word says, "As the sun went down a deep sleep overcame Abram and then a sense of dread, dark and heavy."  It seems the evil one is at work on Abram.  Many times I've felt "a sense of dread, dark and heavy" before God shows up with His Holy presence.  So when the darkness comes, be ready for the light! Prepare a Holy place for God to reside with prayer, worship and consumption of His Word.

And the Word goes on to say, "When the sun was down and it was dark, a smoking firepot and a flaming torch moved between the split carcasses. That's when God made a covenant with Abram: "I'm giving this land to your children..". As is typical of God, He chooses the seemingly impossible route and provides one the opportunity to believe by faith that God's way is one of truth.  Abram is an old man with no kids!  But Abram believes...

If you are in the dread, dark and heavy place, prepare the way for God.  Then by faith, wait for His presence.  He will come.

God establishes a precedence of how He treats those that follow Him...

"I'll make you a great nation
      and bless you.
   I'll make you famous;
      you'll be a blessing.
   I'll bless those who bless you;
those who curse you I'll curse.
All the families of the Earth
      will be blessed through you."

"Abram moved his tent. He went and settled by the Oaks of Mamre in Hebron. There he built an altar to God."

It may be time to move your tent and settle where God promises to bless you and others who are a blessing to you.

Public awakening. 51% Pro-life. The rest don't get it.

Keep praying for the rights of those who will never get a chance to vote for their life.

"Hundreds of protesters gathered outside the main gates of Notre Dame on Sunday as Mr. Obama flew here aboard Air Force One, a day after two dozen people were arrested for trespassing or resisting law enforcement officers.

“The problem here is that we’re trivializing abortion,” the Rev. Frank Pavone, national director of Priests for Life, said on “Fox News Sunday” before the commencement ceremony. “But the people are speaking out. People are getting angry that 1.2 million children are being aborted every year. Now this honorary doctorate today is a law degree. Law is for the protection of human rights.”

"And a new poll by Gallup suggested a shift in American public opinion on the issue. A majority of 51 percent in the survey called themselves “pro-life” on abortion compared with 42 percent who described themselves as “pro-choice,” the first time most American adults have identified themselves that way since Gallup began asking the question back in 1995."  The New York Times

Call me skeptical about the current swine flu outbreak. This book was published in 1976!

I bought a book from the used book store for 35 cents.  It was published in 1976 by the New York health department.  It speaks of swine flu.  How is it if swine flu is a new thing, they are publishing books about it in 1976.  The FAQ is great and should be a real help to you.  Remember these FAQS.

  1. You can't get swine flu from toilet seats but you shouldn't share bathrooms with someone that has swine flu
  2. Children can't get swine flu from sitting on concrete steps
  3. If you child has swine flu don't bother keeping his siblings home
  4. Spitting in public helps spread swine flu and the list goes on but my favorite..
  5. Kissing is a great way to spread swine flu so I guess you shouldn't kiss pigs...

What a hoot!

Lifemate is for a life time. Reflections on the beach.

My lifemate and I have been together for a lifetime.  In July we will celebrate our 37th anniversary together.  It is likely we will enjoy 50 years together.  But for our 37th anniversary, I want to do something special.  I am still trying to figure out exactly what we can do at the income level God has blessed us with.

Any ideas? I'm pretty sure it will involve friends, family and the coast.

I live a life of contradiction and i want it to stop.

I say, "Christ is the most important thing in my life".  Then I engage in conversation with someone and chat about work or vacation.  My relationship with Christ or His priority in my life may never enter the conversation.   How can Christ be even a little bit important and not have Him enter in the conversation?  Even as I write this blog, the answer is easy.  He really is not that important to me if I can ignor Him every day but Sunday...

Has Christ done anything for you recently, that is worth talking about?

When You Prayed the "Believer's Prayer", did it STICK?

Many of you that read this blog have prayed "The Believer's Prayer".  Someone likely was holding you in one hand and a Bible in the other.  The prayer went something like this.  Father, I acknowledge that I am a sinner.  I am not perfect.  No man is perfect, but Jesus.  I believe Jesus died on the cross to cleanse me of my sin.  Please forgive me of my sin.  I choose to follow you.  I choose to "EXCHANGE" my life for the life of Christ.

Although I'm sure you prayed with good intent, but did the prayer "STICK"?  I mean years later, are you willing to die for what you believe?  There are some in the world who are willing to strap on a bomb and blow themselves up for what they believe.  Unfortunately, the ones blowing themselves up are dieing for all the wrong reasons.

As for the "STICKINESS" of the prayer you prayed, are you a Christ follower today?  Do you go to sleep at night thankful for what God has done for you, in you and through you?  Do you regret that today has ended and another opportunity to serve God has swept by?  Do you attempt to give away more than you receive?  Seriously!  Do you attempt to give more than you receive?  Do you insure your mate is constantly showered with actions of love?  Do you treat your children with love?

I could go on, but why?  The question is simple.  Do you live for self or do you live for Christ?  Answer that question and you'll know whether your prayer STUCK! If you still don't know, ask someone else.  They can probably tell you if they see Jesus in you...

Living a Life of Affluence is OK, but what about His temple?

I love going to Port Aransas.  In my high school years, it was the place my dad and I got away.  Back then, it was a sleepy beach town with not much commercial activity.  Woodies was there, but was not much more than a small beat up shack where boats docked.  Now Woodies and most of Port Aransas is developing into a beautiful rich community.

In Haggai's time, God said, " Take a good, hard look at your life.
Think it over. You have spent a lot of money,
but you haven't much to show for it. You keep filling your plates,
but you never get filled up. You keep drinking and drinking and drinking,
   but you're always thirsty...

"Here's what I want you to do:
Climb into the hills and cut some timber. Bring it down and rebuild the Temple.
Do it just for me. Honor me.

It seems very little of mankind's actions have changed over the years.  We still strive and chase after the wind, only to neglect God.  I wonder what God wants you to do for Him.  Doing it just for Him.  Honoring Him?

Footprints in the Sand

I really liked these footprints in the sand.  The thought of footprints in the sand may be a bit overworked in Christian circles, but this beach scene was striking.  There were thousands of bird footprints in the sand, seemingly in a random pattern, in various shapes and sizes.

It speaks well to life.  In amongst mankind's millons of people, we all leave a footprint everywhere we step.  Most of the time we never look back and see the footprint, but it is always there.  Sometimes at peculiar times, we stop, look and realize we have left our mark.  Maybe it was a good impression.  Maybe it was a bad impression.  But, it is an impression.

Cora, friends and I ate at a nice bayside restaurant last night.  For you Port A lovers, we dined at Virginia's.  We shared a great time and enjoyed the seafood dinner.  After the meal was over, we tipped the waitress good and I asked if she had ever seen God do anything in her life?  She smiled and said, "no".  I was speechless.  I asked this question on Federico and my bus trip across America and never got the simple answer, "no".

This question begs an answer.  What do you say to a person that has never seen God work in their life?  What common ground do you have to work from that brings credibility to the statement that God loves you?

Ha!  Made you look.  That's not me.  But, Cora is wonderful at leading others to a close encounter with God while practicing Holy Yoga.  I hope to have some Holy Yoga shots up tomorrow.  It has been a blast on the beach and surf's up!  Between reading Federico's book on Jesus Freaks and taking naps, it was an exhausting day.

It seemed like a good thing to do. The a/c has been out on Cora's
Jetta for the winter but with it hitting 100 degrees it was time to
fix it. So I worked about 50 hours to buy the parts and installed
them in prep for vacation. Too bad but the new compressor was bad so
i got to do the job twice. Now i wait to see if pepboys can charge

Mother's Day and the First Born..

I trust you and yours had a grand Mother's day celebration.  As is tradition, we had family together and I BBQ'd for all.  Then as with tradition, I picked up dishes and washed them.  It makes the day special for the one I love.  I enjoyed doing the "clean up".  My son served cheesecake as I washed.  It was fun.

As we sat at the table, I asked the question, "What was your most memorable Mother's day?" The question was passed around the table and all agreed their most memorable Mother's Day was their 1st celebration after the birth of their 1st born child.  I wish I would have known it was going to be so memorable back when it happened 30+ years, ago.  But, I guess I did ok...

On the other hand, I was child number 3.  Nobody said their most memorable Mother's day was their 3rd child.  It goes right along with 3rd hand clothes.  Oh well.  I guess someone has to be 1st and someone has to be last.  Sigh...

VW Jetta gets new lease on life and I'm whipped...

Golly.  I am whipped.  This is day One of my vacation and I needed to replace the A/C on our 1998 VW Jetta.  I was up early.  I started to tear it apart before it got too hot.  I haven't checked the temperature high for the day, but I'm guessing it broke 100 degrees.  Did I say, I am whipped.

It's evening now.  Cora fixed me a shrimp salad with some of the incredients from our garden.  She is such a dear.  I am watching PBS and a documentary on secluded settings for vacations.  I am a bit confused.  No where in this documentary do they mention rebuilding your honey's Jetta's A/C unit.  I surfed and checked on the 1st spot recommended in Canada.  I thought we might want to go there.  It was about $10,000 for 3 days.  Even for $10 grand, they don't fix your Jetta's A/C.  I don't know.

Anyway, I did a total rebuild on the A/C and just need someone to pump out the A/C so I can recharge it.  Anyone have a buddy that has a vacuum unit to pump the system down?  If so, give me a call.  We probably won't be going to Canada.

Port Aransas Vacation

Between preaching jobs, my dad worked as a civil servant at Kelly Field Air Force Base.  He was a shipping clerk during the latter part of his stay there.  We spent many of his vacation days on trips to Port Aransas.  I have wonderful memories of those trips.  Back then, the fishing was good.

He bought a car one time from someone at work.  As I recall, he paid $20.  I think it was a '59 Chevolet Biscayne.  I'm not sure, I just know part of the adventure was keeping enough oil in the motor to get there.  It seems we added oil more often than gas.  It was part of the adventure.  That and singing along with the radio about Bertha Butt and the Traklodykes or something like that.

Our destination was the Horace Caldwell pier.  Prior to a hurricane, it was the best place to fish.  After the hurricane, there was no pier, but that was a different trip.  Sleeping arrangements were obvious.  Dad slept in the trunk and I slept on the back seat.  It made perfect sense at the time.  My dad was always creative like that.

Dad taught me how to fish with an open reel.  Flip the bale lever back.  Catch it with your finger.  Pull the rod back and let the bait fly.  It was great fun.  Life was much simpler then.  At least for me it was.  For dad, life was probably like it is today for me.  Always wondering what tomorrow will bring...

God Spot - Abraham the homeless guy, McDonalds and bus fare to Helotes.

A couple nights ago, I was accosted by a guy at a gas station dragging one leg and asking for money.  I was annoyed, snarled and threw some change at him to get him to go away.

This morning as I drove through the McDonald's on the way to work, a dirty looking guy pushing a grocery cart and wiping his eyes walked in front of my car.  I thought, there goes another homeless guy.  I checked his cart to see if there was anything interesting.  Just a bunch of garbage as best I could tell and I drove off.  But, I did do a "heart check" to see if this was a "God Spot" designed for me.

As I tried to get into the flow of miserable traffic, I figured this one was for me and crossed a double yellow line to turn around.  I made my way back to McDonald's and went inside with my biscuit and coffee to give the guy.  He already had his coffee and I offered him the bisquit.  I said Jesus loves you and I will pray for you as I think about you today.  He tipped his hat and said, "Thank you and did I have bus money for him".  I went back to the car and Cora gave me all she had.  I gave him $5 and asked his name.

The homeless guy's name was Abraham.  I said that was a great name.  I wonder if when his mother named him Abraham, she thought he might be homeless one day....  As Cora says, "But by the grace of God, go I."

Are you low hanging fruit in the family tree, ready to be plucked?

"Enoch walked steadily with God. And then one day he was simply gone: God took him."  Genesis

Low hanging fruit is an expression describing fruit hanging from a tree that is easiest to pluck.  Enoch as low hanging fruit for God.  He was accessible, pleasing and ripe to be plucked by God.  How accessible are you? Are you ready to be plucked?

Farmer with anger management problem KILLS Rancher and becomes 1st homeless man.

Cain is warned by God that he has an anger problem and must get it under control.  Cain says, "whatever".

God said, "What have you done! The voice of your brother's blood is calling to me from the ground. From now on you'll get nothing but curses from this ground; you'll be driven from this ground that has opened its arms to receive the blood of your murdered brother. You'll farm this ground, but it will no longer give you its best. You'll be a homeless wanderer on Earth." Genesis

There is always CAUSE and EFFECT in your life.  You do something and an outcome is produced.  When the thing we so is against the way chosen by God, the outcome is guaranteed bad.  Sometimes it can be really bad.  In the case of Cain, he was warned about his anger issues and refused to get help.  Murder resulted and the history of mankind was altered forever.  What in your life have you been warned about?  How many others will be hurt because of your lack of responsibility?

God created man to be God-like. How are your doing at it?

God spoke: "Let us make human beings in our image, make them
      reflecting our nature ...

God commands: "Prosper! Reproduce! Fill Earth! Take charge!

Recently, I and a number of people were dialoging on Facebook about the issue of abundance and the question was raised by TJ of Florida, "Does God want us to live an abundant life."  It is a very intriguing question, because from observation it seems most people struggle.  It seems struggling for many is contrary to their idea of leading an abundant life.  I thought I had moved on in my thoughts about abundance only to discover in the 1st book and 1st chapter of Genesis, God commands four things.

The first of these four commandments is to "PROSPER!".  It would seem if our life is to be described as abundant, prosperity will be a component of it.  Also, reproducing, filling the earth and taking charge is commanded by God.  He didn't ask.  He commanded.  Interesting...

Tower of Babel is Being Rebuilt! - http://tinyurl.com/babeliscoming

It's true!   It will be launched this month.  Read more!

For my take on it click: http://37stories.wordpress.com

Tower of Babel - Wolfram Alpha, showcased at Harvard University said to be Holy Grail.

"The biggest internet revolution for a generation will be unveiled this month with the launch of software that will understand questions and give specific, tailored answers in a way that the web has never managed before". Andrew Johnson

I never really fully understood the Tower of Babel thing.  I know they were building a tower, but I really don't know how it was a threat to God.  It never would have reached heaven and the investors would have bailed out after not getting a return on their money.  I'm guessing it was about losing sight of God or a need for the real God.  God was offended and the rest was babbling history.

Well, it seems to me the Wolfram Alpha may be this generation's Tower of Babel.  If an invention is created with all the answers, what need will man have for God?  The answer is as near as the closest computer screen.  Whether that screen is in your wrist watch, hanging on your wall or in your car, Babel will be there.

Now if I were a betting man, I bet this is going to be one BIG GOD SPOT!  It could be this is an important piece of the puzzle that will bring Jesus back sooner as opposed to later.  I'd say invest early in this company and sell out quick before God brings judgement.

But what do i know?

BLOWING SMOKE! - A NATIONAL PAST TIME...

Ever had smoke blown in your eyes?  "I know what you're up to—you're just playing for time. You know you're up a tree. You know that if you can't tell me my dream, you're doomed. I see right through you—you're going to cook up some fancy stories and confuse the issue until I change my mind. Nothing doing! First tell me the dream, then I'll know that you're on the up and up with the interpretation and not just blowing smoke in my eyes."  King Nebuchadnezzar

God is a God of truth.  He is the God above all gods.  His truth clears the smoke and is a catalyst for change.  Blessed be the God of the Angel armies.  I love that description.  "God of the angel armies".

Sing a New Song. But What Song Shall I Sing?

Last night as it was getting close to bed time, I slowed my thoughts down to consider what God might have to say.  He impressed me with a thought. "Sing a new song".  As is many times the case when I think I am impressed with a Word from God, it was an odd thought.  It wasn't tied to anything else I was thinking.  It was just there.  Oddly, out of place.  Then this morning as I began reading His Word on-line, I pondered where should I read.  I had finished Samuel and it was time to move on.  The odd thought of Habakuk comes to mind.  I begin reading only to discover Hababuk 3 is a song...

Habakuk questions: "God, how long do I have to cry out for help before you listen? How many times do I have to yell, "Help! Murder! Police!" before you come to the rescue? Why do you force me to look at evil, stare trouble in the face day after day? Anarchy and violence break out, quarrels and fights all over the place. Law and order fall to pieces. Justice is a joke. The wicked have the righteous hamstrung and stand justice on its head..."

God responds: "Don't you know that God-of-the-Angel-Armies makes sure nothing comes of that but ashes, Makes sure the harder you work at that kind of thing, the less you are? Meanwhile the earth fills up with awareness of God's glory as the waters cover the sea....   But oh! God is in his holy Temple!  Quiet everyone—a holy silence. Listen!"
Then Habakuk sings:

Though the cherry trees don't blossom and the strawberries don't ripen,
Though the apples are worm-eaten and the wheat fields stunted,
Though the sheep pens are sheepless and the cattle barns empty,
I'm singing joyful praise to God.

I'm turning cartwheels of joy to my Savior God.
Counting on God's Rule to prevail,
I  take heart and gain strength. I run like a deer.
I feel like I'm king of the mountain! "

Lowercase (s)piritual movement is birthed and gaining momentum in less than 100 days. It saddens...

Sometimes one is instantly sickened and saddened by what he sees.  Sometimes pictures of poor hungry children in Africa invoke sadness.  Sometimes losses due to natural disaster saddens and invokes deep emotion.  I struggled whether to even post this picture, but I think it important for believers to understand who the America people put into office and how some are beginning to view him.

This picture was scheduled to be unvieled at Union Square in NYC, April 29th.  The unveiling never occurred because of a strong public backlash against the substitution made of our Lord and Savior.  But don't be comforted by the opposition.  The American people are being targeted and the target is being softened.  The attack has only just begun...

Regretfully, I must inform you. Pigs are getting the flu from a Canadian carpenter. It's been confirmed.

"According to USDA Secretary Tom Vilsack, a Canadian carpenter who had been to Mexico came down with flu syptoms upon his return home. He then did work on a hog farm in Alberta and subsequently his family and the swine fell ill, exhibiting influenza symptoms".  Lauren Etter

It seems carpenters always get blamed for the worst.  First there was Jesus who was a carpenter, then there is this poor out-of-work Canadian carpenter who is now blamed for the untimely likely sacrifice of some poor farmer's pigs.  As the Canadian health care system is already over taxed and slow to respond, it is unknown where all the tissues will come from for the poor suffering pigs snouts.

My greatest fear is that because of this one out-of-work carpenter (who flew home to be with his family)...

PIGS WON"T BE ALLOWED TO FLY!

The Mormons thing the world started in Missouri and this Microbiologist things the California Swine Flu started in Ohio!

I tell you what.  It is just so hard to keep up with things.  I've lived a sheltered Baptist life only to discover yesterday that the world may have started 6,000 years ago in the state of Missouri.  Then this morning, I find out everyone has been blaming California for the swine flu (likely because of their sin) but it may have actually come from Ohio.  This according to a noted Microbiologist.

If that wasn't enough last night on the evening news, the news anchor said, "it was likely the PIGS got the flu from a kid that was playing with them".  I kid you not.  That's what he said.  He thought the pigs got the flu from the kid.  I'm hoping, he got his words twisted or the next thing you know we will have pigs running by the hundreds into the sea and all hell will break loose.

Gee that was fun...

Swine Flu N1H1 Scare Spreads Around the World - only to discover we are a people of fear and need to be told to wash our hands by the president.

"Vice President Biden’s statement that we should all avoid planes, trains, and crowded places was not at all consistent with the very low prevalence of the virus. Even President Obama’s statement that we should wash our hands sent the wrong message that there is far more of this particular virus around than there actually is.

In the current swine flu scare the virus is assumed to be a more powerful human killer than it actually is. In reality it appears to losing virulence as it spreads human to human and is not that transmissable, and is NOT becoming widespread.  Despite the fact that you can’t get this virus from eating pork, Egypt is destroying its pigs and several other countries are not importing pigs from the U.S. or Mexico. This is another form of hysteria."  Dr. Marc Siegel, MD

Fear of anything other than God is not of God.  Fear outside of God is from the evil ones.  Does this swine flew thing scare you?  The fear is not of God.  We are a people who tend to fear anything we can not control.  Unfortunately for you and God, there is likely very little from God that is in your control.  What is the thing you tried to control recently?  Was the need to control based on fear?  If so, it wasn't of God...

Archism: Being FEARLESS is either due to relationship or stupidity!

Consider David and Goliath.  David had no fear because he had relationship with the Father.  Goliath had no fear because he was stupid.  Consider the situation you find yourself in.  There may be every reason to be fearful, but you have no fear.  It is wise to consider whether your lack of fear is due to relationship or stupidity.  The outcome can be incredibly good or incredibly bad, depending on the source of your confidence.

Archism: "The threat of death comes many times from those closest to you."

Death seldom comes from afar.  Death is upfront and personal.  David, facing Goliath was upfront and personal.  David knew no fear.  David whacked Golaith and took his head as a prize.

Ever had a dream killed? The villain was likely somone close to you.  That seems a bit odd.  You'd think those close to you would encourage your dreams.

Archism: "Those that are frontrunners are willing to die for their cause."

Is there any cause you are willing to die for?  If you could exchange your life such that another might live, would you?  If not, would you be willing to act the fool such that another might live?  If not, would you at least be willing to risk embarassment that another might live?  If not, what are you willing to do that another might live?

For those that drink sacred wine at church. How are you going to get
it past your face mask? Saw a islamic lady trying to eat an ice cream
cone under her veil one time. It was not a pretty site. This swine
flew thing could get really interesting...

The IMPOSSIBLE is Satisfying for Some and Frightening to Others. I am Satisfied.

I attend the EPIC Life Group on Thursday nights. We are a collection
of misfits striving after the things of the faith. We desire to go
deeper. We desire to go further than those before us. Our journey
this week brought us to consider the reality of fear and how it
influences our life.

In a previous blog, I mentioned I was working on an impossible
project. Fear would agree. This project was impossible, but I like
to work hard. I like long hours and the feeling of exhaustion. I
like to see God step in and take an impossible task and make it
possible. He did this on Friday. http://www.livedout.com was
launched.

God uniquely equipped me and my employer allowed me to create a new
website with heavenly inspiration and human support. On Friday, it
took on the look and feel I was striving for. Sure, a lot will change
in the future. Graphics will improve. More content will be created.
New and exciting features will be added. But for me, God stepped in
and exceeded my expectations.

For all of you that have been contributing content, thank you. May
God richly bless you and multiply the hours He gives back for the
sacrifice you made in bringing a dream to fruition.

I am happy with His creation and I look forward to seeing how the new
website maximizes our impact for Christ.

You might even comment on this blog if you like what you see at
www.livedout.com. God bless.

Pigs Fly. Fear Motivates. Are you being Motivated or Manipulated?

"Journalists often help create today's culture of fear -- the way we push hard on stories about crime, tragedy and warnings of how badly things could go wrong; from political corruption and terrorism to cancer-causing foods and global warming....

What I'm saying is we can resist fearmongers by staying centred. This has spiritual overtones. People who meditate or do yoga are practising being grounded; a possible positive side-effect is they become less easily controlled by those who wield fear. In the same vein, people who trust in some sort of Higher Power are often also finding ways to combat inner panic. Their spiritual convictions help them transcend their fears; real, imagined and, especially. manufactured." Douglas Todd, journalist

God built within us the ability to experience fear.  I believe He gave us fear for a single purpose.  He gave us the ability to fear Him.  In our fear of Him, we would be driven to a closer relationship with Him.  In that closeness, there would be no other fears.

Then the evil ones step in and through the media probagate a false fear such as the craziness of swine flu. I have every expectation for someone to step into the falsely created fear of flu and save the world from disaster.  It's all distorted truth used to create an opportunity for a hero to be worshipped.  Just wait and see...
