The Widow's Offering - There are things to be gained from tradition...

Burkina Faso, Africa
"As he looked up, Jesus saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury.  He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. "I tell you the truth," he said, "this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on."

Much is being said about the emerging church.  Some say the traditional church has done it all wrong.  Others say it is because of the traditional church that the Word of Christ has been spread throughout all the nations.  What do you say?

It was the tradition in the time of Jesus for members of the faith to give of what they had to further the work of God's kingdom on earth.  It is traditionally the same today.  We work.  We get paid.  We give to the church, worthy ministries or individuals who God has chosen according to His will and purpose.

I have been given the invitation to speak at a conference in Burkina Faso.   This small poor country is located in the center of the west part of Africa.  It is referred to as one of the poorest countries in the world.  Annual income is estimated at $400 / year.  That is a little over $1 / day.  Is it possible for a family to even purchase food at $1 / day?  I don't know.  I doubt it.

If God puts it on your heart to help the people of Burkina Faso, it would be good to remember The Widow's Mite.
God bless,
