It is said by some, General Custer and his men were killed because of Custer's pride and selfish ambitions. He was making a run for presidency and his last and final campaign against the Indians was designed to launch a new career in politics. His heart was set on self and his eyes were blinded by his desires.
You and I are in much the same battle today. The forces of evil want to kill, steal and destroy. The angelic forces of good are ever present to repel satan's demonic army. We may not see the battle going on directly, but we can easily see the effects of the war. There are casualties all around us. Satan's forces are hanging the scalps of our friends and family on their belts.
Every marriage you see fail, every drug addiction, every curse, every impure sexual act, every act against God is a scalp satan takes and displays as his victory. Custer did not have to die. You do not have to be a casualty. Victory can be yours. In the midst of battle, call upon the name of Jesus. Turn from evil. Do good. Believe that Jesus died that you might have life and the victory will be yours!
"Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord's servant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will." 2 Timothy 2:22-26
