My boss asked a question the other day that went something like, "what Bible character do you find your own life relating to?" I've done considerable thinking about that question. At lunch the other day, I asked my nephew the same question. It is a good question, worth pondering...
I listened to a pastor preaching on Joseph today. He was quite animated. I found the story of Joseph in Genesis 37 and more. I find myself relating to Joseph. Reading his story, it can easily be seen he was a man of circumstance. He didn't plan out his life and figure how he could lead from the 2nd chair to the king. He just lived life as faithfully as he knew how before a God that loved him. Then, life happened to him.
Much of the life I have experienced is not because I planned it that way. I was just as obedient as I knew how and life happened. When Joseph was thrown in a pit to die, he didn't plan it that way. When he was sold into slavery, he didn't plan it that way. When he became 2nd chair to Potiphar, he didn't plan it that way. When he was thrown into prison, he didn't plan it that way. Life just happened that way.
I think that is the way God wants it. He wants us to be as obedient as we know how. Then He makes or allows life to happen to us. It is our responsibility to be faithful regardless of the circumstance and believe that God is the creator of all things. He loves us and blesses us in the midst of living a life pleasing to Him --- in the midst of circumstance, seated in the 2nd chair.
